Soundtracks Take 2

If you missed the premiere performance of Soundtracks last Autumn in Charlbury - then worry not - it is due to be performed again in Evesham and Charlbury this October.  Soundtracks is a performance of exciting new instrumental and choral music, poetry, dance and drama in celebration of the redoubling of the Cotswold Line. Having been commissioned with funds from the BBC Performing Arts Fund, it's initial outing was greeted with much applause and subsequent offers of financial support from Network Rail, First Great Western and the Cotswold Line Promotion Group to restage the show in Evesham.

The show allows us a window onto the fever of excitement as the railways came into being, the heroes of the hour and the human cost. It makes reference amongst other things to the land and geology, Brunel and the Battle of Mickleton Tunnel and a possible train of the future. Commissioned by Charlbury's community choir, Voices Unlimited, and written by the Oxford-based music group: Kismet and poet: Joe Butler, Soundtracks also received creative contributions from Charlbury Morris and Charlbury Primary School Choir and Teresa Ceesay and Gary Hale of First Great Western.

Restaging in Evesham: In order to maximise the benefits of this project in a new community, Soundtracks is raising a new choir in Evesham to sing alongside Voices Unlimited. St Egwins School are also getting involved with their children's choir and likewise members of Eveshams Operatic and Dramatic Society. The project aims to get as many local community members involved to be part of history in the making.

Performances are taking place  at 7.30pm on

21st October at the Evesham Arts Centre and

22nd October in Charlbury at St Mary's Church.

Tickets will cost: £10 full price adult, £6 concession £3 child 5-16yrs

We would be delighted if you felt moved to get in involved:

  • if you like singing then please come and join in the choir rehearsals - it might not be too late but please check with Kath Lucas 01608 811293

  • come and see the show in October

  • spread the word.

The CLPG will shortly be starting to plan for the weekend of 17th/18th September 2011.
It is at this time that celebrations will take place for the 150th anniversary of the opening of the railway line between
GREAT MALVERN and HEREFORD.

It should also be an appropriate time to celebrate the completion of the work to re-double the track between
Charlbury and Evesham.
