COMBE STATION CELEBRATES ITS 75th BIRTHDAY. ![]() Combe station was opened by the Great Western Railway on 8th July 1935. Above is an official photograph taken by the Great Western Railway at the time of the opening. In recent years, the service provided has been reduced to just one train in each direction on Mondays to Fridays and none at all at weekends. Nevertheless, the local community wished to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the opening of their little station and, with the encouragement of Combe Parish Council, First Great Western and the Cotswold Line Promotion Group, plans were made for events on 8th July 2010. |

First Great Western kindly arranged for one of its High Speed Trains to call specially at Combe in the morning to take a party of children from Combe Primary School on an outing to Worcester. The photographs above show them at the station accompanied, centre, by Cotswold Line Station Manager, Teresa Ceesay while, right, Oxford Station Manager, Geoff Capes, holds the door open as they board their train. |

The 1743 train has just departed on its way to Worcester, leaving the gathering to continue with its celebrations. | |
