SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY FLOOD DAMAGE..

The CLPG's Spring 2007 Newsletter promoted the idea of a day out on the Severn Valley Railway and gave details of through ticket arrangements from various First Great Western and Central Trains' stations.  The CLPG has had a long standing association with the Severn Valley Railway, our first ever charter train, and one later one, having visited that railway.

The CLPG was sad to learn of the massive amount of damage sustained to the Severn Valley Railway's infrastructure on the night of 19th June, during a torrential thunderstorm.  The following photos are from the SVR's web site.

It will be several months before the Severn Valley Railway is fully operational again, so the virtues of through ticketing will not apply during this period.

The Severn Valley Railway has launched a "Flood Damage Appeal Fund" in an attempt to help with the estimated £500,000 to £1,000,000 cost of repairing the damage done during the storm.   Details can be found on web site www.svr.co.uk.

We are pleased to report that the section between Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade reopened on Saturday 9th February 2008.  It is hoped that the whole line between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth will be restored on Good Friday, 21st March.

Item added on 26th June 2007 and amended on 11th February 2008.
