£3.50 EVENING FLAT FARE OFFER CHANGED.

About 10 years ago, the, then, Hereford and Worcester Council negotiated with Central Trains for a special evening £3.00 flat fare promotion to apply to all stations in the county (except Leominster, we believe).  The offer was available every evening for day return tickets on trains departing at or after 1800.  Initially it covered the Hereford to Evesham section of the Cotswold and Malvern Line until it was pointed out that Honeybourne is in Worcestershire and this station was added in May 1998.  Later, Thames Trains agreed to extend the offer to Moreton-in-Marsh, which was considered to be a more natural boundary for the scheme.  Until recently, this offer, which also covers the Bromsgrove and Stourbridge routes into Worcester, has continued unchanged except for a price rise to £3.50.

The Cotswold Line Promotion Group was disappointed to learn that part of the offer was dropped, and has made successful representations to First Great Western to get it reinstated.

Currently, the situation would appear to be as follows:

The £3.50 evening flat fare applies between:

any two stations from Moreton-in-Marsh to Hereford
any two stations from Hereford to Stourbridge Town or Bromsgrove.

However, there is a problem if travelling between Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham or Pershore to Droitwich Spa or Bromsgrove.  The offer no longer applies for these journeys.   It is recommended that if travelling between Moreton-in-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham or Pershore to Droitwich Spa, you obtain a ticket to Kidderminster.  If travelling to Bromsgrove, you will need two separate £3.50 tickets, one to Worcester and another from Worcester to Bromsgrove.

The CLPG hopes to get this anomaly removed in due course, but these particular fares are the responsibility of Central Trains and it may have to be left until London Midland takes over in November.

Item added on 9th August 2007 and amended on 11th October 2007.
